Social Networking for MED Week 2011
As you prepare for the National MED Week Conference held Sept. 27-30 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., you are likely planning to get the most out of your time spent listening to featured speakers, learning in the education sessions and even making deals in the networking sessions held throughout the week. But what about using social media to make the most of your conference experience?
By now, most of you have heard of Twitter and know that it’s a 140 character microblogging services. MBDA has a Twitter account (@USMBDA) which provides information about MBDA, Director Hinson and what’s happening in the minority business community.
You may see our MED Week Ambassadors, a group of business owners who have been selected by MBDA, help get more people engaged online during the conference. They will be tweeting, blogging and sharing information through online channels about MED Week over the course of the week.
To get involved online during the conference, follow these easy steps:
- Create a twitter account if you haven’t already. Follow @USMBDA to ensure you keep up with all the conference action.
- Participate and use the hashtag #MEDWeek11 in your tweets to join the conversation.
Facebook is one of the fastest growing social networking sites and your business should this opportunity to foster new relationships with those who are interested in your brand. To build a network on Facebook, you want people to “like” your page. Once they do that, your status shows up in their news stream offering the opportunity for fans to comment, share information or give a “thumbs up” when they like a specific post.
In preparation for MED Week, invite business partners and friends to become fans of MBDA on Facebook. There you will find real time information and photos of what’s taking place at the conference.
LinkedIn is also a popular social networking site focused specifically on the business professional. With more than 60 million users spanning 200 countries, you are bound to find other business owners to network with and learn from. You can join MBDA’s LinkedIn Group to network and share opportunities and information with other minority business owners.
